Urban legacy lands initiative

Urban Legacy Lands Initiative is a new Cultural Heritage Development Corporation in Indianapolis that centers Black cultural heritage in community revitalization, real estate development, and placemaking. Their mission is to reveal, protect and preserve the rich heritage of Black people and places. Their efforts are focused in and around Indianapolis' Historic Indiana Avenue which has suffered more than 70 years of systematic disinvestment and erasure of Black people and place.

urbanAC worked with ULLI to help establish the organization and its scope of work. We facilitated working sessions with various stakeholder groups to explore what cultural heritage and cultural heritage development meant to them and to understand community capacity needs. Additionally, we conducted initial urban research with the ULLI team and other partners and created Neighborhood Profiles for each area of interest.
